Subject: I was there
I was there, up in the balcony and loaded. I was less than a month out of the Marines and trying like hell to come back to the world. Experiencing the Dead live helped me to fight my way out of one reality and into another. For me all of this talk about the quality of this recording is pointless. For me the Dead were a cultural phenomenon, they opened a doorway to a different mental space at a time when I desperately needed one.

I guess we have to agree to disagree wilsondupree. ....WE? ARE YOU SCHIZZO?...I'N NOT ASKIN OR EXPECTING ANYONE TO AGREE OR DISSAGREE WITH ME, I'M JUST STATING MY THOUGHTS AND A CONVERSATION I HAD WITH SOMEONE THAT WAS AT THIS SHOW, THATS ALL...... I saw Furthur over the summer and it was a great time..... GLAD YOU HAD A FUN TIME. THATS WHAT THIS TRIP IS ABOUT.... I think they are doing a great job of playing to their new members strengths(eg. Joe Russo is an animal allowing them to play full Terrapins that sound great)......I AGREE, JOE RUSSO IS INDEED A GOOD DRUMMER.... and I love that they are writing new songs together...GOOD FOR YOU, SOMEONE HAS TO.

Are they the Grateful Dead? No, they are Furthur and I think they are really sounding good...and definitely better than a lot of bands touring out there right now. .....THATS YOUR OPINION AND I'M HAPPY YOU FEEL THAT WAY, BUT AS GARCIA ONCE SAID "IF ALL YOU HAVE IS THE GRATEFUL DEADS MUSIC, THEN YOU HAVE NOTHING AT ALL" YOU NEED TO GET OUT MORE.... The energy is definitely there at the shows and they are mixing up the traditional order that the dead always used for their sets.... JILL LESH WRITES THE SETLISTS....
I hope you change your mind at MSG. I think you will...
SAT MSG BLEW AWAY THE SHOW I SAW IN BROOKLYN, SUNDAY WAS JUST PAR, BUT IT'S GONNA TAKE MORE THEN 3 SHOWS TO GET ME ON THE ROAD AGAIN.
THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN.

Listened to this show for the second time today at work... loved it. The magic is stil there and I'm glad they're still playing the tricks.... Jeff Chimenti is a fantastic keys player. Golden Road is a riot... John kicksass on that one. Nice Scarlet->Smarter. Have a happy day...

Subject: Great night at the old hall
Last time the Dead played here in any configuration was Keith's debut on 10-19-71 (yes, '71, hahahaha, thanks! :). Bertha ripped, and the second set Help_Slipknot_Golden Road_Franklin's was just terrific.

Really nice sounding recording, Mike did the next night in Ames, too, that's great too. Thanks!

Cherry pickin this one and I gotta say it really puts a smile on my face. It really sounds as if the soul is there, the true feeling really comes through. Like a Rolling Stone was just cool as hell. I'm sure there was many a wet eye for the fine rendering of "Comes a Time". I honestly am so happy for the youngsters who didn't get to see the boys. This is, without a doubt, the closest we're gonna get. Long live the Dead and this absolutely timeless, priceless music. And if your thinking about taking in a live show, I say do it. You will not be disappointed as long as you go in with an open mind and no expectations, and take it for what it is. Jerry is no longer with us, but these guys are proudly carrying the torch. Puts the 'Dead' of '09 to shame, and that was good in its own right, just was far from the source, if you know what I mean.
Fantastic sounding recording.

I THINK YOU MEAN 10/19/71
Nice how Bobby opens with Maggies Farm and ends with Like A Ro;;ing Stone to honor Bob Dylan while in his home state. Great sound!! Just listened to the whole show on Bose headphones and the overall sound is outstanding! Really enjoyable loud. JK's guitar solo in Golden Road is blazing hot amazing!! Check it out for sure.
